More ways to access non-emergency care

High-quality care is always within reach.

Illnesses and accidents can happen at any time. That’s why we offer convenient ways for you to get the care you need. Find out how to access care when it isn’t an emergency.

• Primary care visits

  It’s best to start with your primary care physician as they may offer same-day, next-day or after-hours appointments. Contact their office to determine the best way to receive care. Their phone number is listed on the front of your Sharp Health Plan member ID card.

• Video and phone visits

  Many providers offer video and phone visits, also known as telehealth, which can save you a trip to the doctor’s office. Some plan medical groups offer telehealth services for certain medical conditions, and for certain follow-up appointments. Telehealth is also available for behavioral health appointments within our network, with no referral necessary from your primary care physician in most cases.

• Urgent care

  Urgent care centers treat a wide variety of illnesses and injuries and are a good option for same-day care. Contact your primary care physician to see if an urgent care visit is needed. Remember that when you’re home in our plan service area, urgent care visits must take place at an urgent care center in your plan medical group. When you’re away outside our plan service area, visit a convenient urgent care center near you. After visiting urgent care, regardless of the service area, your PCP may want to see you for a follow up. Virtual urgent care is also offered through both Sharp Community and Sharp Rees-Stealy.

• MinuteClinic^®

  MinuteClinic offers convenient access to basic care from nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Available seven days a week, including evenings, you can use CVS’ clinic locator to find a location near you.

• After-Hours Nurse Advice

  If it’s after hours or the weekend and you need medical advice, you can call Sharp Nurse Connection^® to talk about your illness or injury with a registered nurse. Members can call  1-855-562-8853 from 5 pm – 8 am, Monday to Friday and 24 hours on weekends. 

• Emergency Travel Services

  When traveling 100 miles or more away from home or in another country, our emergency travel services partner connects you to doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other health care services. We also offer prescription assistance, referrals for interpretation and legal services, pre-trip information, as well as assistance with lost luggage, documents and personal belongings.
